Cotton Ball Clouds

When we sat down to do a craft this past weekend it had been raining nonstop the entire day. Both kids were restless and I was at my wits end. Luckily we were able to make this raincloud and save some of our sanity. As we created we sang "Rain, Rain Go Away" and other made up rain songs. The singing was entertaining and the raincloud turned out pretty cute.

What You Need

White Cardstock 

10-12  Cotton Balls

Yarn (5 pieces about 1 foot in length)

Construction Paper (for rain drops)

Glue

Scissors

Marker





What To Do

1. Using the marker draw a cloud onto the piece of white cardstock and cut it out.

2. Glue the pieces of yarn onto the cloud as pictured below.

3. Gently pull apart the cottonballs so that they are no longer round and glue onto your cloud.

4. Cut out tiny raindrops from the construction paper and glue onto the yarn as pictured.

5. Attach a magnet to the back or simply used a few pieces of double sided tape to hang.

Here is hoping that this is our last "rainy" day project. I am ready for some fun outdoors!

Chalk People

Sidewalk chalk helps pass a lot of time at our house. Usually the kids request for me to draw things I am not capable of drawing (mermaid, horse, frog, etc.). I usually make a sad attempt and end up somewhat pleasing the kids. But I think our favorite thing to do with sidewalk chalk now is make people. It is easy and the kids get so excited when I trace them while they lie on the ground. Once they have been traced we fill in the body and add accessories (rocks from the driveway often become beautiful necklaces). The drawings will definitely not win any prizes but they usually don't turn out half bad! 

(I think Bennett had more fun coloring his pants!)

Planting Flowers

For Mother's Day we gave all of Alivia and Bennett's Grandma's this flower pot that I had made. Of course every flower pot needs flowers. So we stopped at our local flower shop on the way home from work and school. That afternoon we turned the kid's picnic table into a planting station and repotted the flowers we had purchased into bigger pots that fit into the flower pots I had made. We had a lot of fun and made a pretty good mess. But the best thing about working outside is that big messes clean up really easy (just add water).

 



 

Cotton Swab Flower

This craft is proof that a flower can be made out of anything. We have had so much rain this spring that I am really hoping we can start doing some crafts with the real thing. For now cotton balls and cotton swabs will just have to do!

 

 

What You Need

9-12 Cotton Swabs

1 Cotton Ball

Paint

Glue

Paintbrush
 

What To Do

1. Dip the cotton ball into the paint and then glue it in the center of the page.
 

2. Glue each cotton swab onto the paper to create your flower as pictured.
 

3. Paint each cotton swab with a small brush and let dry.


Here is hoping the rain lets up and the flowers outside start to grow. We are in need of some fun outdoors and I have so many things I want to try! Some crafts are just to messy to keep indoors!



 

Handprint Tulips

Happy May Day! One of my favorite days because it means warm weather is finally here and is going to be here for awhile (here is hoping anyways)! We had a lot of fun making these tulips in celebration. Of course Liv has fun making anything that allows her to paint her hand.

What You Need

Paint

Paintbrush

Paper

Marker/Crayons

What To Do

1. Paint the palm of your hand and all four fingers as pictured. 

2. Place hand on paper like so....

3. Add more flowers, draw on stems, and decorate however you would like.

Mother's Day Gifts

One thing I have learned when it comes to gifts to the Grandparents is that they love the homemade gifts. Especially my Mom. And the look on Alivia's face when she gives those gifts is priceless. This year we painted some of the wooden knick knacks I had picked up when browsing the Target "One Spot". This birdhouse was fun and easy and looks great hanging out with Grandma's house plants. To mix things up a bit we painted the house one color and then took a sponge and painted overtop for a textured look. I kind of wish I had one of my own now!

In honor of May Day we decided to make these cute little flowers. Plus we have tons of tissue paper lying about after celebrating Liv's birthday. This project was a lot of fun and really easy to do.

What You Need

Tissue paper

Glue

Safety Scissors (if your kiddo is learning to cut)

Construction Paper

Marker/Crayon

Directions

1) Cut a piece of green construction paper in half and draw lines for your little one to follow as they cut.

Looks are deceiving I actually had to help her cut most of the time.

2) Glue the lines to a sheet of paper.

3) Cut the tissue paper into approx 4 inch squares (I cut these out myself). Have your little one wad the paper up into a ball.

4) Glue the tissue paper onto the green stem to create your flower. We glued an additional wad of paper into that to add a little more dimension.

5) Sit back and admire. Or have your little one decorate the remaining paper with colors, markers, stickers, etc.

Butterfly Treats

Tomorrow Alivia turns 3! I think the day before the actual birthday may be just as busy as the day of. My evening was full of baking and crafting. Tomorrow Alivia will go to school (daycare) in the morning and no birthday is complete without taking treats for all of your friends! This craft was a lot of fun and really easy.

What You Need

Ziploc baggies

Clothespins

Paint

Snack (cereal, candy, or in our case "Puppy Chow")

Pipe Cleaner

Your Imagination

Directions

1) We started this project out by having Liv paint all of the clothespins while I got busy making the snack to go inside.

I am pretty sure she is painting her hand here!

2) Stuff each sandwich size Ziploc baggie with about 1 cup of the snack.

3) Twist the baggie in half making sure to evenly distribute the snack on each side.

4) Secure the center with a pipe cleaner that has been cut in half (this will become the butterfly antennas).

5) Place clothespin over pipe cleaner.

6) Finish decorating however you choose.

Don't they look so cute all together? I am sure Liv's classmates are going to love them!

Birds In a Nest

I saw this craft on Parents.com and thought it would be easy for Liv to do. It was pretty simple and didn't take much time at all. Here is how you can make your own.

SUPPLIES

Paper Plate
Brown Paint/Paint brush
Popsicle Sticks
Pom-Poms
Googly Eyes
Colored Paper

DIRECTIONS

1. First cut the paper plate in half and staple it together creating your nest.

2. Have your toddler start painting the nest brown.

3. While nest is drying you can create your birds. Glue the pom poms to the end of the popsicle sticks. Create a beak using colored paper and glue on googly eyes.

4. Once everything is dry your little one can have fun playing with the birds and flying them to their nest.

Our nest is currently perched on the fridge. Liv has had a lot of fun playing with her birds and flying them back to the nest!
